Séamus O'Sullivan, nature writer and outdoor educator with 14 years of experience in Irish landscapes

Nature Writer & Outdoor Educator

I've spent the last 14 years documenting Ireland's natural spaces — from the glacial valleys of Killarney to the wetlands of Wexford Slobs. My work combines scientific knowledge with practical field experience. I'm not just writing about these places from a desk. I've logged over 500 days conducting guided nature walks and birdwatching expeditions across Ireland's most cherished landscapes.

After completing my Environmental Science degree at University College Cork in 2010, I worked as a field researcher with the Irish Wildlife Trust, conducting bird population surveys at Wexford Slobs. That research shaped how I approach everything now. Every article about forest bathing practices, picnic locations, and wild camping tips is informed by current ecological research and my own on-the-ground observations. I believe that outdoor relaxation and conservation go hand-in-hand, and my writing consistently emphasises sustainable practices that protect Ireland's natural heritage.

14 Years in Ireland's Ecosystems

01

Field Research & Conservation

Worked with the Irish Wildlife Trust conducting bird population surveys and biodiversity research at Wexford Slobs. Contributed to multiple published ecological reports that informed conservation policy across Ireland's protected areas.

02

Guided Nature Experiences

Led over 500 guided nature walks and birdwatching expeditions across Killarney, Tollymore, and Wexford Slobs. Each expedition deepened my understanding of seasonal patterns, wildlife behaviour, and how visitors interact with fragile ecosystems.

03

Educational Content Leadership

Now leading educational content creation at grokbar Limited. Every article reflects rigorous research combined with authentic field experience. I maintain active membership with Birdwatch Ireland to keep knowledge current and credible.

What I Specialise In

Deep knowledge across Ireland's most important outdoor recreation spaces

Killarney National Park

Lakeside picnic spots, trail systems, and seasonal ecosystem changes. I've documented safe, responsible ways to enjoy Killarney's beauty without disturbing nesting sites or sensitive vegetation. My guides cover everything from the Ladies' View to lesser-known coves that locals prefer.

Forest Bathing & Woodland Walking

Forest bathing in Tollymore and beyond. This isn't just about walking through trees — it's about the practice of immersing yourself in woodland environments for health and wellbeing. I've trained in shinrin-yoku principles and guide people through proper forest bathing technique.

Birdwatching & Ornithology

Wexford Slobs is one of Europe's most important wetlands. I've logged hundreds of hours there observing migratory patterns, identifying species, and documenting seasonal changes. My articles help both beginners and experienced birders understand what they're seeing and when.

Wild Camping & Responsible Recreation

Wild camping in Ireland requires understanding regulations, respecting landowners, and leaving no trace. I've tested every technique and location mentioned in my guides. My approach ensures outdoor relaxation doesn't harm the ecosystems we cherish.
